Rescuers of Jews

Norvaišaitis Juozas

Uršulė and Juozas Norvaišaičiai, their daughter Aldona

The Kirkilovsky family lived before the war in the region of Vilkaviškis. In September 1941 the Norvaišaitis family took into their house 3 Jewish men and 2 Jewish girls who had escaped from the action against Jews. The Norvaišaitis hid Kirkilovsky and other Jews until the end of the war in a bunker in his stables. As a result of denunciations searches were made, bur the Jews were not found. However, Norvaišaitis was arrested and sent to Germany as a slave labourer. His wife and daughter continued to hide the Jews. In 1943 Norvaišaitis escaped from Germany back to his village.
